Eugene Schmald immigrated to the United States and opened The Flint Specialty Company in 1944. He subsequently opened Schmald Tool & Die in 1948 and began working with General Motors building stamping dies and molds for die casting. Eugene’s son Gordon Schmald worked beside his father and took over the business in the 90’s, and expanded company capabilities to include the design and build of injection molds.
In 1997 Laurie Moncrieff took over as the third generation. Laurie has concentrated on reinventing the company cultivating new business opportunities, supporting the entrepreneurial community, and supporting customer’s needs. She changed the name of the company to Adaptive Manufacturing Solutions (AMS) and has worked to service customers and support innovation, technology, and product development. AMS has been participating in activities and will continue to support and advocate for programs that upskill the workforce, strengthen small businesses, and grow the U.S. Industrial base.
